Xfx Geforce 8600 Drivers For Mac

Geforce

This may have been answered before but. I have a macbook pro 2.4 with the geforce 8600m gt graphics card. Im running a few games (crysis, gears of war, etc) through bootcamp on windows xp sp2 and believe i need to update the drivers. I understand the card i have isn't top of the line and i should expect to tweak the graphic options in order to play, however, for example, when playing crysis, the shader must be set to high or else only eyeballs are visible (no character/object models). Being the shader is a very demanding graphical tweak, it makes it that i have to turn every other option all the way down in order to play. Anyone know where i can find the most up to date driver since the one i am running is from may 07 and i assume apple does not provide drivers for a windows partition. Excuse my ignorance, but is there any disadvantage to getting your drivers through the manufacturer's website?

The most current are 163.75. I'm a long-time PC user about to switch. I've always had good luck using the most current drivers available directly from the manufacturer. Seems to be the most logical choice, too - they make the product. Generally the process is download, execute, reboot, and you're good to go.

Setting a system restore point wouldn't hurt, but it's not a part of my normal 'driver update' routine. That's because VMWare is virtualization software.

Basically, the video card is emulated. As far as what type of video card is emulated, I don't know. So while physically, you have an 8600m GT, the guest OS sees whatever VMWare is emulating.

I don't think that the video card that VMWare emulates even supports the Aero interface of Windows Vista, so the video card that's emulated isn't a very high end video card. I personally wouldn't dream of trying to play games on a virtual machine.

Basically, to get around this, you'll need to use Boot Camp. This will also allow you to play games at full speed and with all of the features (I think VMWare only supports up to DX8.1 for games). I have never used VMWare, as what I need to do in Windows won't work well in a virtual machine.

Click to expand.Hello my friends. I am also currently using a MacBook Pro with a Geforce 8600M GT graphics card. I also have Windows (i am using boot camp) and I cannot update my graphics card.

I have tried for a whole day but I cannot find the appropriate answer to help me update the graphics card. I have tried what some have suggested on this web page, but after I restart my computer it still says my driver version is 6.14. Even if i don't restart, it doesn't say it has been upgraded. I visited the website I downloaded the driver there, I copied the INF file to the folder created by the driver.exe (replacing the OLD INF file). I used the special approach of updating the driver (my computer - properties - hardware - device manager ETC.) and it still does not seem to update.

I even tried uninstalling my old drivers and THEN installing new ones, but no work. This much frustrates me, and i wish someone can help me. Thank you, i look forward your reply.
